Bifrost’s Olympic Gold
RuShou – (an Oriental Dragon.. Mythical God of Gold and Autumn)
BD August 13, 2009
<January 2010> RuShou is getting bigger – today January 30, 2010, he’s a whopping 88 pounds. Heres a pic from his 1st snow experience.
<November 2009> For the last 3 or 4 years Husband has been wanting a brown boy puppy. Between the right one not being available and having the golden opportunity to get a black girl (Corena) and then a brown girl (Rebel) that needed a good home, he kept having to put off getting ‘his puppy’. He loves the girls and Bucca, of course, is our first Newf love. He had been very patient and wonderful, but he still wanted a brown boy puppy. I truly really felt like it was his turn.
I, however, totally cannot be trusted around puppies, especially Newf puppies! I can watch the ‘puppycam’ all the time and if I know that none of the pups have our ‘name on it’, I won’t get overly excited by the new litter. I can just enjoy them objectively. But if you put one.. or 3.. or more furry, cuddly Newf pups within reacy of my hands and I see and smell the wonderousness that is a Newf puppy, I’m done for.
Right after our trip to Tahiti, I took a fast trip to see ‘Mom and Dad Betchley’ (our breeders and mentors for all our furkids) with Rebel, who went down for a few weeks for a visit. We all had a great time and I got to spend the night in the ‘puppy room’ with 3 of the cutest brown balls of fur you ever saw. It was a majorly fun weekend.
The ‘blue boy’ as he was called was so darn cute and sweet and I got up the courage to ask if he was available. If it had been at all possible, I was gonna pack him up and take him back home with me and surprise husband with his ‘brown boy puppy’. But Bill was out of town at a show, Pat and I didn’t have a lot of time for discussion or thinking and we were looking at breeding Rebel, so I think everyone wanted to think about it.
Two weeks make a world of difference, Husband & I went back down to San Antonio this weekend to bring Rebel home. This time we got to bring ‘blue boy’ home with us.
I’d like to introduce you to Bifrost’s Olympic Gold, or as we call him ‘RuShou’. He’s was 13 weeks old and is the son of Hannah, sister to Rebel, so he’s her nephew and also distantly related to Bucca and Corena. On November 13 at 4 months he weighs approximate 60lbs.
Isn’t he the cutest thing? There is no way I could leave without him. I had been a trifle concerned about blending him into the current ‘pack’. But they all did just great. I’m not sure why it worked so well, maybe he smells like family or maybe it’s really is just that they are all Newfs. But even on the first day they all got along great, even when he steps ON them to get to another part of the room.
So we took the long walk down to the lake and after a bit, he needed a break, so Husband helped his little guy out. At 13 weeks and 37 pounds, Husband won’t be able to carry him like this for long.
Since he’s gotten here, Bucca has mostly ignored RuShou, but in the water I kept seeing him with an eye on the pup being sure he was okay. Bucca is such a great guy… excuse me while I go hug the big softy again. After the 1st few days, Bucca and RuShou are big buddies now, Bucca lays on his back or side and lets RuShou climb on him and tug on him, it’s so cute! They also play tug-o-war with various stuffies and play ropes.
Down at the lake, RuShou didn’t do much more than just get his feet wet, but over all he had a good time. He loved all the new sights and smells.
He did watch Bucca very closely to see what was going on. Bucca was his usual wonderful self.
RuShou probably wasn’t in the water more than 5 minutes before finding his way to land and climbing up onto the dock where I was, but he had a great time and we feel like he’s going to enjoy the water.
So at the end of the 1st day, the sleepy puppy and his new pack curled up for the night, safe and snug in his hew home. More on RuShou later!
