*Day 8 – Wednesday – Beach Bums

  • Posted on October 29, 2009 at 1:00 am

Time for lazing in the sun and enjoying the beauty of the island. I think these pics are getting posted Thursday morning. We’ll be heading out for our trip back late this afternoon and I’m not sure we’ll get a chance to write again before we get home. Thursday night and Friday will be travel days, so we’ll catch back up on the later side when we get home. We truly enjoyed our trip.. it’s a once in a lifetime experience. I hope you’ve enjoyed letting us share a bit of Tahiti and BoraBora with you, I hope you get to see if for yourselves soon.

*Day 7 – Polynesian Show

  • Posted on October 28, 2009 at 2:31 pm

The hotel has a dinner buffet on Tuesday nights with a Polynesian dance show. We’ve been to several similar shows in Hawaii and decided to check it out to see the differences.

The food was tremendous, with lots of fresh seafood in many of the dishes and a great dessert table. However, if you don’t like seafood, I can imagine it wouldn’t be as good for you.

Because it had rained pretty much all day, they held the show indoors. The guys came out and danced first and in all the times we saw them dance they had about 4 moves that they repeated over and over. It was actually kind of funny but a little sad too.

 09102711

The girls were young and pretty, but except for a couple of them, they weren’t very experienced dancers. But they did try.

09102712

The best dancer had a lovely tattoo on her hip that at first I took for a bikini bottom. I was mistaken.

09102713

This dancer was the best of the group and she did a wonderful solo at one point in the show.

09102714

The band was extremely good, the guitar and ukulele players excellent and the singers were really good.

Finally it was time to say goodnight. I will say that quite a few audience members lined up to take pictures with some of the dancers, so maybe we were just a bit jaded in our expectations. Overall it was a fun night and we were glad we went.

Good night from BoraBora.. Hugs.. Ellen

*Day 6 – Bloody Mary’s Restaurant

Monday night we went to the main island and Bloody Mary’s Restaurant. After having read mixed reviews and talking to people who had been there, we weren’t sure how it would be, but we decided to go anyway.  We had a wonderful time!

Seafood Buffet

Seafood Buffet

After we got there we were led to the huge iced buffet of fresh fish, complete with appetizers and entrée fish. This is actually where you chose your dinner and this is the part I really didn’t like much. Decisions, decisions, I have such a hard time making decisions on the spur of the moment. Finally I just had Husband choose for me.

We got shrimp kabob appetizers and he got swordfish with some kind of cream sauce on the side for his entrée. My entrée was wahoo marinated in teriyaki with a green peppercorn sauce (a house specialty). These were served with steamed veggies, white rice and fresh fruit. Then we shared a molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Yummy! It was all really good and I was stuffed.

Afterwards, as you know I like to do, I made a new friend, he’s pretty sturdy to lean on.

Husband even made friends with him too.

He had the greatest head of hair and was a real standup character.

Oh My!!

Oh My!!

The funniest part was when some honeymooners from Maui that we met told Husband to go into the men’s room. This is the flush handle. I immediate went to check out the ladies room but was quiet disappointed that there was nothing similar.  Just a wooden ring on a chain that you pull to get water in a small rock waterfall to wash your hands. So sad… I almost invaded the men’s room just to check it out!

We looked at a all of celebrity pictures and there is a board that lists the names of all the famous people who had eaten here. Very fun, but to my knowledge we didn’t see anyone famous that night.

Hugs to all… Ellen

*Day 6 – Monday – Tropical Landscapes

  • Posted on October 27, 2009 at 6:00 am

This morning we woke up to a gentle rain, so we’re currently indoors. I grabbed some internet time for pics, etc. Tonight we’re going to Bloody Mary’s Restaurant which is supposed to be either wonderful or a total tourist trap, but more on that later!

The other afternoon, husband climbed to the top area of the resort for some of the most amazing pictures. I’d like to share a few of them with you. I’m truly running out of words to describe them. Maybe it’s the sun or the rum or so much beauty, but I’m just going to let you enjoy them.
