Our Christmas

From Our Pack to Yours

The Happiest of Holidays!!

To all our dear Family and Friends (both realworld and virtual) –

We love you all and want to catch you up on what we’re doing and hopefully you’ll let us know how you are doing. 2009 has been a tremendous year for Chuck and I, filled with travel, life changes and generally just a wonderful life. Yes, amazingly enough, we are still living on the lake in Arkansas (3-1/2 years now). It’s rural, quiet and very peaceful, we really love it.

Chuck’s job at Acxiom is still about the same as it has been for the last 3-1/2 years.

In February, we went to Hawaii for Chuck’s birthday and enjoyed the sun, the fun and the lazing on the beach. We also got a chance to visit with Shelley (Chuck’s longtime friend and our Best Person) and her sassy and cute daughter, Miss J. We adore Hawaii and want to get back there anytime we can.

Then, on a whim, we discovered FaceBook and what a crazy place that is. It’s put us both back in contact with family and friends (both old and new) on a more regular basis.

To our FaceBook Family.. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

This summer we grew another veggie garden. The peppers, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers were awesome. The big tomatoes didn’t do well and we only got one small watermelon. The corn looked great, but was eaten by raccoons (we think) before we could get any to eat. We did get a tremendous amount of cucumbers. We ate a lot and gave quite a few away before I decided to try canning, or ‘jarring’ as Chuck calls it. It was the first time I’d ever tried canning. I put up 35 quarts of pickles (both dill and bread & butter) and they came out really tasty. It’s definitely something we plan to repeat next year!

We had a lot of fun over the summer with David(TheYounger), swimming in the lake, boating, cooking out, gaming and having his local friends over. The summer went way too fast.

David (theElder)

David (theElder)

David (TheElder) also visited us in September for a few days while traveling. We really enjoyed catching up with him and it was the first time he’d been to visit us in Arkansas.  He has also made his own life changes by joining the U.S. Army. He is currently stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia doing training before traveling to wherever the Army sends him. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. I’m so very proud of him.

In the Fall, I accepted a full-time job at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, and I started October 1. I’m the Administrative Assistant at the Center for Leadership and Learning, which is part of the graduate college.

Also in October, in celebration of our 10 year anniversary, we took a ‘once in a lifetime’ trip to Tahiti/BoraBora. It was beautiful and fabulous and we both enjoyed it thoroughly.

We’ve had a few visits during the year from other friends and thoroughly enjoyed them. We’ve also spent time exploring the beauty of Arkansas ‘The Natural State’.  the Arkansas River, Mt. Nebo, Petit Jean Mountain and other scenic areas, it really is a beautiful area.

We probably won’t be doing much traveling in 2010, so if you’d like to visit, we’d love to have you! Just let us know.

David(TheYounger) Crane is 12 now and doing very well in school. He is taking high school Algebra in 7th grade and getting good grades in all his subjects as well as enjoying his Tai Quon Do training. He will be coming to visit us after Christmas this year and again next summer. We can’t wait to see him!

As far as our Newfs are concerned we now have a 4-Pack!

Bucca – (UKC Ch. Bifrost’s Bucca Dhu) now age 4-3/4 is still our big loveable huggie-bear. He enjoys swimming, walks, sleeping near his people and tummy rubs.

Corena - Newfs Gone Bad November 2008 Corena – Newfs Gone Bad November 2008

Corena (UKC Ch. Bifrost’s Corena Corena) also age 4-3/4 and Bucca’s litter sister is our shy sweet girl who doesn’t like to swim, but who enjoys pulling the cart and sitting next to Daddy! She just adores Chuck! But she’s probably most famous for counter surfing and eating one of Chuck’s pumpkin pies last year.   I will never be forgiven for grabbing the camera and not the pie.. lol.

Rebel's Championship

Rebel (Ch. Bifrost’s Love at First Sight) now age 3-1/2 and I went on the road to dog shows in the Spring and finally in Bossier City, Louisiana she got her 2 majors to go along with her single points and became an AKC Champion.  Our thanks to Bill & Pat and all the others who helped us with grooming, training and showing. It definitely “took a village!”

And Finally – on a crazy November trip to San Antonio to visit Bill & Pat, we met and fell in love with the new member of our pack – RuShou (Bifrost’s Olympic Gold) now age 4 months.  RuShou is a bouncy brown ball of fluff who is fitting into our family and our pack beautifully.

That rounds out this year and our family, we’ve been very blessed. If you get the urge for some country peace and quiet, come on down. We’d love to have you visit us.

Pics and most of our doings can  usuallybe found on my website and blog –

*Crazy Life

  • Posted on December 15, 2009 at 10:11 am

Hi there.. It’s another part of my crazy life but between all the stuff going on, blogging fell off a bit. I am ready to get back and tell you everything, but just know I’m all right and will be talking to you soon!

Life is good, just very, very busy.

All the Newfs are great and the puppy, RuShou is wonderful and hardhearded (but with Rebel for an Aunt, what can you expect?)!

Take care.. Happy Holiday and I’ll talk to you soon!!!  Hugs, Ellen

*Now it’s a 4-Pack

You remember Bucca, our 1st Newf. You also remember sweet Corena. And I KNOW you remember Miss Rebel, our wild child. Well, before we were 3 Dog Night, Now we’re a Four-Pack!

I totally cannot be trusted around puppies, especially Newf puppies! I can watch the ‘puppycam’ all the time and if I know that none of the pups have our ‘name on it’, I won’t get overly excited by the new litter. I can just enjoy them objectively. But if you put one.. or 3.. or more furry, cuddly Newf pups in my hands and I see and smell the wonderousness that is a Newf puppy, I’m done for.

Right after our trip to Tahiti, I took a fast trip to see ‘Mom and Dad Betchley’ (our breeders and mentors for all our furkids) with Rebel, who went down for a few weeks for a visit. We all had a great time and I got to spend the night in the ‘puppy room’ with 3 of the cutest brown balls of fur you ever saw.    It was a majorly fun weekend.

Husband & I went back down to San Antonio this weekend to bring Rebel home. As luck would have it, over the last 2 weeks another whole series of events have happened and the brown boy that Husband has been wanting for about 4 years now came home with us as well.

I’d like to introduce you to Bifrost’s Olympic Gold, or as we call him ‘RuShou’. He’s 13 weeks old and is the son of Hannah, sister to Rebel, so he’s her nephew and distantly related to Bucca and Corena. I’ll have his page up soon.

RuShou, our new Newf

RuShou, our new Newf

Isn’t he the cutest thing? There is no way I could leave without him. I had been a trifle concerned about blending him into the current ‘pack’. But they all did just great. I’m not sure why it worked so well, maybe he smells like family or maybe it’s just they are all Newfs. But even on the first day they all got along great, even when he steps ON them to get to another part of the room.

We all need a lil' help sometimes

So we took the long walk down to the lake and  after a bit, he needed a break, so Husband helped his little guy out. At 13 weeks and 37 pounds, Husband won’t be able to carry him like this for long.

Since he’s gotten here, Bucca has mostly ignored RuShou, but in the water I kept seeing him with an eye on the pup being sure he was okay. Bucca is such a great guy… excuse me while I go hug the big softy again.

Let's Get Our Feet Wet

Down at the lake, RuShou didn’t do much more than just get his feet wet, but over all he had a good time. He loved all the new sights and smells.

He did watch Bucca very closely to see what was going on. Bucca was his usual wonderful self.

RuShou at play

RuShou probably wasn’t in the water more than 5 minutes before finding his way to land and climbing up onto the dock where I was, but he had a great time and we feel like he’s going to enjoy the water.

So at the end of the 1st day, the sleepy puppy and his new pack curled up for the night, safe and snug in his hew home.

Come visit if you get the chance and bring your pups or kids if you have them. Our furkids would love to see them and have a great playtime. Have a great week, Ellen
